VoiCeS Commissioning Workshops 26th Nov & 2nd Dec

Please download the flyer for the VoiCeS Commissioning Workshop events being delivered in partnership with colleagues from FACT.

Our apologies for the limited notice for these events but is imperative that VCS and wider Third Sector partners have an opportunity to have their views heard as part of FACT commissioning and that means working to the tight timescale at this point.

VoiCeS has been active in working to ensure that the VCS is an equal and valued partner in FACT commissioning and we hope this will be the first of many opportunities for the sector to be involved. We will be continuing to work to ensure that the children and young peoples’ VCS are appropriately involved at all stages of commissioning and hope to build on the advertised workshops to develop ways of working across partners.

We do hope that you will feel able to prioritise attendance at the workshops even at this late stage, as it is important that the sector:

-          Demonstrates its interest in commissioning

-          Takes the opportunity to influence

-          Develops an understanding of what is happening around commissioning in FACT

-          Evidences its experience and knowledge of ‘what works’ in commissioning and in operational delivery

-          Contributes to seeking solutions for children, young people and families

-          Establishes itself as an equal and valuable partner

-          Identifies and communicates its’ needs in the emerging commissioning agenda

Whilst VoiCeS will continue to work to address the ambition for the sector as equal and valued partners it is really important that this is supported by your input into consultation, events etc.

Please take the opportunity to add your views and experience to the commissioning agenda through the workshops at this stage.

If you are unable to attend the workshops but would be willing to share your thoughts electronically (again a really short timescale, I’m afraid) please let me know.

Networking for Change

During 2007-8 NCDN ran a project called Networking for Change to give people who are active in their community the chance to explore issues along with others who are interested, to help them become advocates for their community in consultations and in taking on representative roles.

Action learning discussions took place within our learning clusters around the county and there have also been some county-wide seminars to explore topical issues. These have included topics such as:

  • 1st October 2007 - The proposed unitary authority’s ‘Characteristic’ Communities for Northumberland
An update from David Francis (VCS rep on the Northumberland Strategic Partnership Executive) and chance to comment on the County Council’s plans for reorganisation
  • 4th December 2007 - VCS organisations working with communities of interest or identity looking at the idea of 'Association' communities as proposed in plans for the new unitary authority - with Bob baker who is helping to oversee the transitional arrangements.
  • In February we encouraged NCDN supporters to help identify priorities for supporting local communities.
