The Northumberland Backfill Project is an initiative hosted by the Northumberland VCS Learning Consortium, which aims to alleviate these problems by offering practical assistance to organisations to cover the temporary absences created when a staff member attends training courses or other events. Organisations will be reimbursed with the cost of the Backfill worker.
Small grants will also be available to cover training related costs, such as care costs for staff who attend training or other events outside their normal working hours. Excessive travel costs can also be funded.

If you have a staff member participating in one of our training programmes and your organisation can appoint a member of staff to cover their absence or arrange for cover, we can assist you in reimbursing staff costs. A nominal fee has been set for the reimbursement of staff costs and there is also a maximum payment an organisation can claim.
If staff attend training outside usual working hours then they can claim for childcare costs and extraordinary travel costs can be reimbursed.
Members of the consortium can claim excessive travel costs for attending consortium meetings and events.
